<Highlights of Nijo-jo Castle>
Motorikyu Nijo-jo Castle has watched over the changes in Japanese history, including the rise and fall of the Tokugawa family.
In 1867, the 15th shogun(General) Yoshinobu expressed his intention to “Restoration of Imperial rule'' at the Ninomaru-goten Palace, which is very famous in Japanese history.
You can see the relics of the Momoyama culture that are still gorgeous after about 400 years, such as the Ninomaru-goten palace, the Ninomaru Garden, and the Karamon gate. Nijo-jo Castle, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, can be said to be a valuable historical heritage that has witnessed the transition of the Tokugawa family and the long history of Japan.
