WELCOME TO ISPC 25

As the Co-Chairs of the 25th International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC25), we are pleased to invite you to this exciting Symposium to be held at Kyoto, Japan, from 21 to 26 May, 2023. The symposium venue is Miyako Messe Kyoto, located at the heart of Kyoto City in the neighborhood of well-known cultural attractions for locals and tourists alike.

The aim of this Symposium is to bring together leading experts, practitioners, and students working on plasma chemistry and to establish a relaxed and informal venue for intensive discussions on the latest discoveries and active exchange of new ideas among them. All papers presented in this Symposium should report new and unpublished work. As such, the Symposium will offer the participants a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive first-hand information on the latest developments in this field.

The International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC) is sponsored by the International Plasma Chemistry Society (IPCS), the largest international not-for-profit professional society specializing in plasma chemistry. The IPCS was established in 1999 as the successor of the association named “International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Subcommittee on Plasma Chemistry.” The bylaws define its active members as the participants of previous ISPC.

The ISPC has a long history, going back to well before the establishment of IPCS. The Symposium was first held at Kiel, Germany, in 1973, and, since then, has been held biennially at various locations around the world. The last ISPC was held at Naples in Italy, 2019, as many of us still remember it vividly and fondly. At Kyoto in 2023, we shall celebrate the 25th event in the series of successful symposia, 50 years after its inception. Details of the past Symposia, including their proceedings, are found in the IPCS website at https://www.ispc-conference.org/

Following the time-honored tradition of ISPC, the IPCS Summer School will be also held prior to ISPC25 (from 21 May, 2023) in a nearby hotel, to which we enthusiastically welcome graduate students, young scientists, as well as those who are interested in (re)learning plasma chemistry systematically.

The City of Kyoto offers the charm of both traditional and modern Japan to its visitors. Kyoto was the capital of Japan from 794 to 1877 and still preserves many historical buildings, traditional art works and performing arts as well as its authentic food developed by aristocrats and commoners. At ISPC25, you may also find the beauty of natural landscapes that surround the City of Kyoto.

Again we look forward to welcoming you at ISPC25 and IPCS Summer School at Kyoto in 2023. Your contributions to the Symposium and Summer School are invaluable and vital to the success of these events.
